[Chart] Music Bank 2010/08/13

August 16, 2010

BoA won 1st place in Music Bank last Friday the 13th. It wasn’t really a surprise. I think everyone in the studio knows she will win. But I’m still not feeling her. Though she’s one of the biggest star in Kpop, I just feel like there’s a wall between us preventing me to understand what she’s all about. Anyway, maybe I only need time. Congrats to her still.

The album sales thing must really be so strong in SM artist. SNSD, Super Junior, SHINee and now BoA has won Music Bank purely because of album sales. Music Bank should really study their system. Remember, korean fans are crazy. They will go to lengths to immortalize their idols. It has been proven that SNSD and SuJu fans have been buying 3-5 albums to give them a win in Music Bank. Maybe changing the system a bit would be fair for non-SM artists. Every online charts have stated that DJ Doc is a more popular song. Anyway, that’s life.

[Chart] Music Bank 2010/08/06

August 11, 2010

Last Friday, SHINee won again over Miss A. And again, album sales alone gave SHINee the win. Check out the stats below. I think this will be the last Music Bank win for SHINee. Well at least I’m certain that they won’t win this Friday. BoA dominated Hanteo this week and she’s doing quite well on the online charts. I think DJ Doc and BoA will be the top 2 contenders with BoA winning.

Going back to SHINee, I’m really happy they’re going back to who they were in 2008. Lucifer is Daebak. I mean performance-wise. Great choreography, great execution. New kpop fanatics may not know but SHINee was known in 2008 by their amazing stage performance. Dance-wise. They were like what rookie group Infinite is showing now.

“Noona You’re So Pretty”, “Love Like Oxygen” and my favorite still “Amigo”. I really felt bad when SM decided to follow the girl group trend of catchy moves for SHINee. “Juliette” and “Ring Ding Dong” were so toned down it felt like it was a different group though “Ring Ding Dong” put SHINee on the map. I’m really excited for SHINee to perform as 5 again. Plus, ditch those backup dancers. They were a bit of a distraction.

Hope Minho recovers soon. Check out the dance practice of Lucifer.

[Chart] Music Bank 2010/07/30

Last week, SHINee won 1st place in Music Bank. And with SHINee’s win, my album sales theory strengthen. I’m not saying that SHINee doesn’t deserve the award. It just shows how dependent the top place position is in album sales rather than song popularity. But there’s nothing anybody can do. That’s how Music Bank works. Every system has a flaw. And Music Bank’s flaw is quite obvious. The album sales alone gave SHINee the win.

In my opinion, if you want to know what song is popular, check out the online charts. More specifically, Cyworld. Unlike Music Bank, Cyworld cannot be controlled.

Anyway, a win is a win. Congrats to SHINee.

[Chart] Music Bank 2010/07/23

July 26, 2010

Last Friday, Miss A won their first Music Bank win with their debut song, “Bad Girl, Good Girl”. This is actually an amazing accomplishment for them. And to think it’s Music Bank. I’m not saying Music Bank is the most prestigious music show, the show is highly dependent on album sales. But that is the reason why this win is tremendous. For a rookie group, winning against Taeyang, Son Dambi, and Super Junior, that’s no easy task. But the girls of Miss A were able to do it. And they won with their debut song. The only ones in recent memory who were able to do so are C.N.Blue and 2NE1.

I’m really amaze in JYP’s ability to produce talented groups. I mean, so far he has not missed. All groups he debut have been warmly receive. g.o.d, Wonder Girls, 2AM, 2PM, and now Miss A. Though Miss A just debut you can really feel that they’re going somewhere. In a sense, Miss A is the combination of JYP’s previous groups. g.od’s stage presence, Wonder Girls’ synchronization, 2AM’s vocal stability, and 2PM’s fierceness. All mashed up in one group.

I’m just really amaze with JYP. I think he’s the best producer so far. Though SM Entertainment have the largest annual income, the company have produced a lot of failed groups. M.I.L.K for example. I don’t know much about YG, as far as I know, Big Bang and 2NE1 are the only groups that the company debuted. So right now, JYP is the guy to beat. That’s 5 successful groups in a row. 5:0 if you wanna call it.

[Chart] Music Bank 2010/07/09

July 12, 2010

After winning Music Bank 3 times a month or two ago, Super Junior once again prove their prowess by winning their 1st Music Bank win for “No Other” last Friday. It would be their 4th overall this year. And like their Bonamana win, Album Sales became an integral part of the win.

I’m actually amaze how fanatic ELFs are. They would really go to lengths for Super Junior. Album Sales points constitute 10% of their entire sales. So if Super Junior had 8393 album sales points, it just means that their album has sold 83,980+ in just a week. Anyway, a win is a win. Congrats to them. I’m seriously digging the song.

[Chart] Music Bank 2010/07/02

July 6, 2010

Last Friday’s Music Bank gave IU and Seulong a win for the song “Nagging”. I predicted incorrectly actually. I tweeted that Super Junior would win that week but they didn’t. This is the first time I got it wrong. For the past few months, I’ve noticed that those that topped the weekly charting of Hanteo eventually wins Music Bank. I still can’t access Hanteo but from what I can remember. Big Bang’s album topped that week (I can’t remember but I think it’s a concert album). 2nd is Verandah project and then the two albums of Super Junior finishes 3rd and 4th. I immediately think that SuJu wins because Big Bang and Verandah project weren’t performing.

Anyway, that’s that. Congrats to IU and Seulong. I don’t actually like the song but congrats to them still..

[Chart] Music Bank 2010/06/25 Mid Year Special

June 28, 2010

Last Friday, Music held their mid-year episode special where they determine the top 20 songs that were received well in the first half of the year. SNSD’s “Oh!” fortunately received the top prize with 2AM’s “Can’t Let You Go Even If You Die” placing 2nd. With Wonder Girls trying to make it in America and 2PM has their controversies, 2AM seems to has now become the face of JYP.

One thing that I noticed in the chart, is that 2PM’s “Heartbeat” is ranked higher than “Without You”. This is something 2PM has to take notice and be taken seriously. The basis for this mid-year chart are data gathered from 2010.01.01 ~ 2010.06.20, as stated in Music Bank’s website. Heartbeat’s promotion ended in the Gayo Festivals. It simply means that the after effect of Heartbeat is received well than the well promoted “Without You”. I said this before, 2PM has not bounce back from the conference thing and it really shows.

In my opinion, JYP needs to make a damage control plan. Though it isn’t that obvious to some people, 2PM’s popularity have been so declining day after day. JYP should do some marketing thing for the boys and make a point not to let Taecyeon take the lead of the group. Taecyeon is hated so much. May it be in twitter, facebook and youtube. If JYP let this continue, I don’t know if 2PM would have anything left by next year. Seriously.

Anyway, going back to the chart, it is SNSD’s time to shine. Congrats to them.
