Mid-Year Online Charts Monthly Recap

July 2, 2012

Here are the songs that topped the charts in each month. I only included 3 because monkey3 and cyworld is no longer available for overseas viewing. Ollehmusic (formerly Dosirak) archives only started from March of this year. Bugs on the other hand has no monthly chart. Anyway, Melon, Mnet and Soribada are the charts that matter anyway. Well, that and cyworld.

Melon
[January] T-ara (Lovey-Dovey)
[February] Lyn (Back in Time)
[March] Big Bang (Blue)
[April] Busker Busker (Cherry Blossom Ending)
[May] SNSD – Taetiseo (Twinkle)
[June] Wonder Girls (Like This)

Mnet
[January] T-ara (Lovey-Dovey)
[February] Lyn (Back in Time)
[March] Big Bang (Fantastic Baby)
[April] Busker Busker (Cherry Blossom Ending)
[May] SNSD – Taetiseo (Twinkle)
[June] Wonder Girls (Like This)

Soribada
[January] T-ara (Lovey-Dovey)
[February] Davichi (Will Think of You)
[March] Big Bang (Blue)
[April] Busker Busker (Cherry Blossom Ending)
[May] Baek Ji Young (Voice)
[June] Wonder Girls (Like This)

Its pretty much the same artists winning in all 3 charts for the early part of 2012 aside for the month of February and May. Lyn wasn’t available to hold her ground in Soribada and succumb to 2nd place behind Davichi. The same thing in the month of May. Taetiseo topped Melon and Mnet but finished only 2nd in Soribada behind Baek Ji Young.

By the way, I included the link to the monthly charts so you can see it for yourself. The soribada chart has only one link for all monthly charts so I just put in below.

Link Migration

June 13, 2011

It’s been a while guys. But to be clear, I’m not blogging once more. This post is just to inform you that the links to the music charts and everything else on my blog roll (Twitter, HomePage, Online Chart etc) will be migrated to my youtube channel.  I’m doing this as a favor to a friend. Don’t know why she wants it to be like that but it seems to mean a lot to her. Anyway, here’s the link to my channel.

Hope you guys an entertaining life. See you around…

ShockedFan says Goodbye

January 1, 2011

As I stated a few months ago, I have decided to end shockedfan.wordpress.com to readily prepare myself to the next phase of my life. I’ll be graduating after this semester and kpop has no place in my future. So why bother stick with something that will bring nothing to your growth? I wanna build a career and I wanna be as successful as I can be. Also, I can’t be doing this forever. And as the year 2010 ends, it is a perfect way to end something that has become endearing to me.

I got into Kpop in 2008. Late May to be exact. And if you’ve been following me for the past year and a half, you would know that my Kpop fascination is highly attributed to the Wonder Girls song “So Hot”. I actually know Super Junior first because of my sister. She has this undying infatuation to Kim Kibum. But though she keeps telling me about the group, I never really got into them. They kinda remind me of those American boy groups that emerge in 90s. Selling songs with their looks.

But one day, I heard my sister playing this Super Junior song that caught my attention. I don’t know if you know “Sapphire Blue.” But after hearing that, it kept playing in my mind. So I googled Super Junior and “Sapphire Blue”. One of the search results was this post in popseoul.com. I checked the article and I think it was something about Super Junior T. Anyway, I went to the Home Page of popseoul and read this comeback article on Wonder Girls’ and their track “So Hot”. I listened to it and I like it. I wasn’t crazy about it yet but I did like it.

I forgotten all about it after that. I checked on Wonder Girls on youtube, when I was online again a few days later. The latest video post was this 2008 Dream Concert performance of theirs. And I was really blown away. That Dream Concert performance is the first Kpop performance I saw, and I remember how amazed I was. I was like “if everyone in Kpop performs like this, then I’ve been missing a lot.” For one thing, they distribute the song as evenly as possible unlike PCD and they perform, not just sing. Unlike the Spice Girls. And that was what really got me, the dancing.

A lot of girls now can dance, but what Wonder Girls still have is this synchronized blocking which I think only After School can replicate. Scratch that, I think as a group, f(x), Wonder Girls and After School are the only ones that can be deemed as great female dance groups. Again, I emphasize the edges. You’ll know Wonder Girls can dance because the edges of the routine are on the mark. The attention to details were also amazing. My favorite parts are that V-Line intro, that switch from Sohee to Ye Eun, and the entire rap.

Seeing Wonder Girls perform in that Dream Concert made me think what other groups would be worth my attention. I checked the other performances of the event. I saw SNSD, I rejected them quickly because that “Kissing You” was a bit troubling. I mean adult women holding lollipops, in mini skirt and singing “Kissing You, baby” is a bit like a porn. No offense intended. I grew up in the US and if SNSD will sing that, my impression will be the same as everyone else. Then there’s Super Junior Happy, MC Mong, then Epik High. And so on and so forth. To cut it short, aside for Wonder Girls, the only one I liked at the event was SHINee. I don’t like Replay but as performers, they were pretty good. Funny, DBSK was there too. I wonder why I didn’t remember them?

For over a year, I’ve been fascinated with Wonder Girls and SHINee. Well, Wonder Girls in the most part. SHINee just really got to me when they released “AMIGO”. A lot of groups emerge and that I got introduce. Some of which I like and some I don’t. Some are obviously just pretty faces.

What’s really sad about Korea is that they take into consideration the outer beauty too much. I’ve been to Korea and you just can’t imagination how much shallow Koreans are. Well, they are like just in Korea. When they leave the country, they become much more open-minded. I’m not hating on Koreans but it’s really sad how the good-looking just gets their way. I know it happens in life in general but in Korea it’s 3X worst.

Going back, as I’ve stated I’m departing from Kpop. I made this decision over 3 months ago. And in that time, it made me realize stuff. For one thing, this is one of the reason why Shinhwa, g.o.d., and FINKL’s popularity declined dramatically. It’s not that their fans abandoned them. They just moved on. Like what I’m doing right now. What defined an idol groups’ success is their fans. It is so true that Kpop is just for teenagers and students. For people who don’t have commitments and obligations that entails to their survival.

DBSK is the most popular group in Korea right now. But honestly, they are not taking in new fans. That 700,000 Cassies were the same 700,000 Cassies 3 years ago, with an exception of some few. What I’m trying to say, when young Koreans finally have the consciousness, to choose the fanclub to belong, they will not choose someone who debuted 3 years before their awakened consciousness. They will choose on the new groups that will catch fancy. A few years later, the cycle repeats. My point, when you start to come down, you won’t be able to come up again. Well, as high as you were before you were gone.

A few months ago I wrote this post saying that SNSD, Kara, 2PM should invest their time in promoting overseas. Because for a fact, that their popularity are going down already. I want to put emphasis on Kara and SNSD since their group concept is pretty much what other new cute girl groups are doing. And a year from now, fresher and younger groups will emerge that will leave the “just okay” groups in the dust. Cause like fashion, Kpop is obsessed with youth.

Sistar, T-ara, MBLAQ, and Infinite are the successors of the throne of SNSD, 2PM, Kara, 2NE1, 2AM and SHINee. Just as they succeeded Wonder Girls, DBSK and Big Bang. The other groups will succumb to newer and fresher idols that will come out. f(x) for example will surely plummet when they start promoting without Amber which I think they will soon.

Please continue loving Wonder Girls until you can. As well as Big Bang, MBLAQ, 2NE1, 2AM, Infinite, and SHINee. I think they really deserve love since they have been giving quality performances. DBSK should be included but I would be delusional. The truth is staring at us in our faces. They have disbanded.

This post is quite long but I just really want to say everything I want to say before I leave. And in my departure, I think it is only fitting that I should end my Kpop phase with the same video that made me fall in love with it. Here’s Wonder Girls’ “So Hot” performance in the 2008 Dream Concert.

AJA! Fighting!
